There's only a few thousand people who call La Pine home, but it feels larger than that.
I think that's because it's stretched out along the highway for quite a distance, but quickly dissipates into the high desert forest after a few blocks once you leave the highway.
After La Pine you don't encounter much until you reach Klamath Falls. That said, this town is well equipped with all the prerequisite small town necessities - Les Schwabs, Radio Shack and a Bi-Mart.
But our favorite part of La Pine was actually found on it's outskirts. The tallest Ponderosa Pine tree in Oregon located in nearby La Pine State Park.
