Mountain View, situated in a mountain plateau, offered a respite from the hilly drive it took to get here. While not as quaint as it's neighboring communities it did seem a tad more lively.
I wonder if the vista behind this church is what inspired the town's name? That's more of a hill to me, but perhaps you can see west to Mount Ashland or south to Mount Shasta on a clear day.
This park wasn't even on our map, but I'm sure glad we stopped. Highway 66 is aligned with the old immigrant road, a major western migration route, and you could still see signs of the wagon trail.
It was a bit like traveling in time to stand here and imagine what life was like for those ragged and weary families as they pushed westward through the most formidable terrain.
