This area was originally known as The Basin due to it's location at the bottom of a large round valley.
The area was also once referred to as Willow Creek. The small water feature winds it's way through the area. I'm curious how much water is normally here as it was essentially dry on this fall day.
Eventually the name of Madras was adopted. Legend has it the name was borrowed from a bolt of Indian cloth a local merchant had for sale.
The historic Madras Hotel is still open for guests.
The blinking stop sign is the about the biggest thing to happen to Madras since the birth of the late River Phoenix.comments powered by
